Что это такое

Good morning, Olga,

In lesson 3 we learn that "Что это такое?" and "Что это?" mean the same thing, but a bit more curiosity is denoted when "такое" is tacked on. Can "такое" be added to any question to indicate curiosity or is it just used with "Что это?"

Also, what does "такое" by itself translate to in English?

Thanks,
Mandy

Good morning Mandy,
The word "такое" literally means 'such' or 'suchlike' and used a lot of times in different situations. Its is an adjective, therefore it agrees with a noun it describes.
At the beginning of the course this word is just introduced with the question "Что это такое?"
Later on in the course you will learn about other usages of this word. It's always easier to learn something new about the familiar word.
At this point the translation of this word does not make much sense, but later on it will be more clear.

Hi Olga,

I'm assuming you mean "такое" means such or suchlike here and not "это"? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,
Mandy

Sorry, Mandy.
You are right, of course, the words 'такое' means such.
My mistake and I corrected it.
Thank you for pointing it out.
Olga
